Plot: Paul Newman plays Harry Ross, an ex-cop turned ex-private

investigator turned alcoholic. Harry Ross (Newman) accidentally shot by

17-year-old Mel Ames (Reese Witherspoon) during his efforts to get her to

return home to her parents (Hackman and Sarandon). He's in the twilight

of his life, looking back on the wreckage of an existence that he's not

especially proud of. Harry lives with his good friends, the actor/actress
